Sermon April 20, 2025 - Easter Sunday!
•
Pastor Chris Cahill
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Let’s get a few things clear to start with:
- Today we remember that Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week after the Jewish Passover - and that’s the day we call Sunday.
- The word “Easter” comes from an Old English word that means “the dawn” - and it reminds us that Jesus rose from the dead before the sun came up.
- We have Easter eggs because in the middle ages people were not allowed to eat eggs (or meat) during Lent; when Easter came, the fast was over and they could eat eggs again! We color the eggs for the same reason we have colorful Christmas lights - they’re more fun than plain white ones!
- We have Easter bunnies because it’s the season of spring, and rabbits are coming out of their winter burrows into the warm sunlight. So are groundhogs for that matter, but they already had their own day back in February.
But the most important thing to know about Easter Sunday is this: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
